Horrific News from Animal Friends of the Valleys Animal Shelter
A fire erupted in the early morning hours on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Animal Friends of the Valleys Animal Shelter in Lake Elsinore. A mobile home housing puppies, small dogs and cats burned taking with it the lives of all 39 animals. The cause of the fire was likely electrical. Animal Friends of the Valleys provides animal control services to the areas of Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and other surrounding areas. Supplies that were in the mobile home also burned. Donations of supplies and cash are being requested to assist the facility. They also need foster homes. For more information, go to their website at: www.animalfriendsofthevalleys.com Surgery for Mimi ![]() March 2nd- Mimi continues to do fantastic and has recovered well from her surgery. Let's hope the tumor does not come back. February 3rd - Mimi went to the vet on Wednesday - received a great report on the healing of her incision site. Had her sutures removed. The biopsy report came back as a "soft tissue sarcoma - peripheral nerve sheath tumor". These generally do not metastasize but often recur. So, we'll just have to watch her. In the meantime, she is happily sleeping on her bed, eating well and getting lots of extra attention. January 29th- Mimi is doing very well - progressing just fine from her surgery. Her incision is healing well and she is eating everything we present to her! She will return to the vet in a couple of days for her re-check and we hope to have a great report! Mimi, one of our permanent foster dogs, had to have surgery on January 17. She has had a tumor on her left hip that kept growing and growing. It was causing her difficulty walking and she would sometimes lose her balance. She sleeps alot though, since she is an older girl, so it didn't give her alot of problems. But then the growth started to have skin breakdown and would have gotten nasty if we hadn't done the surgery. We didn't really want to put her through a surgery at an older age, but had no other choice. So, Dr. Martha Eaton of Sunnymead Animal Hospital in Moreno Valley removed the growth - Mimi got to come home the next day with 22 sutures. She seems to be doing well, though. She is eating and happy! We'll see how she heals and progresses. The tumor was sent out for biopsy - we are hoping for good news. You can see more about Mimi on our "Permanent Foster Dogs" page. |
